Success stories

Pete’s Drumming Story

In 2019, Pete (aged 13) visited a Northampton music store to buy a drum kit. While he was there his dad enquired about drum lessons and was recommended our services. He left the store that day with a new drum kit and a business card for Drummers Link.

Pete’s dad got in touch straight away to ask about lessons and we booked him in for a free trial session that same week. In the 30 minute lesson he learnt his first few rock beats and was playing along to some simple rock backing tracks in no time!

He decided drumming was definitely his thing and several months of weekly lessons passed with Pete’s commitment and passion for the new hobby being a clear accelerator for his learning progress. He was comfortably learning new songs every week and within 8 month of lessons we put him forward for a local music showcase.

We helped him form a band with some other young musicians and then rehearsed the group to perform not one but THREE songs on their first outing. Pete absolutely nailed his first performance, which you can see in the show footage below!

2021

Skip forward 2 years, Pete (now 15) has spent most of 2021 working through the Rockschool grade 5 syllabus in preparation for taking that level as his first exam. This process involves learning three songs and a series of technical exercises designed to challenge the player as they move up the levels, and Pete had certainly been working hard putting in hours and hours of practise preparing for his Grade 5 assessment.

In September 2021, Pete took the exam and shortly afterwards received the news that he had achieved a phenomenal result of 98%! This is the highest percentage result any student of mine has received to date.

Pete is now looking ahead to completing the succeeding grades and will be aiming to go all the way with them. He has all the support and encouragement from his family, friends, and Drummers Link!

Greg’s Drumming Story

Greg started taking lessons with us in July 2019, aged 14. He had already achieved a Distinction in his Trinity Classical Drums Grade 6 and was looking for somebody to help him develop his playing further and reach Grade 8 level.

Greg started taking weekly 1 hour lessons and we pushed forward with his playing!

Skip forward 2 years, and Greg has now completed his Grade 7 and Grade 8, with scores of 94% and 97% respectively. We have also given him the opportunity to perform on a few occasions during that time.

Since completing all of the drumming grades, we increased his lesson times to 90 minutes, and started studying some of the great drummers and working through some really advanced content.

We have been offering him mentorship and help preparing for the competition, and will continue to support him in any way possible as he progresses his journey into the music industry!

Now aged 17, Greg is studying music at BIMM Birmingham to obtain his Diploma, and has recently taken part in Mike Dolbear’s Young Drummer of the Year 2022 competition, where he reached a spot amongst the top 10 finalists. Watch his incredible final performance below!
